A map not only tells you where you’re at, but it also tells you frequency channels. the radio tells you where to fly and even the next frequency you will need once you’re out of range. Morse code can be found on the radio and the map will help you identify a location. There are many landmarks as well which can be seen from the sky to help you identify your location like airports, theme parks and lakes. Even the beach can be seen from the Sanford airport. An instructor will point out each gauge and how everything works.
You would be amazed at how affordable learning to fly really is. Discovery flights, located in the Comair facility at the Sanford airport charges fifty dollars (probably more now) an hour. A private license is the cheapest license you can get for those few that wish to pursue flying as a career opportunity.
